Bengaluru, July 8 (NationPress) Drawing comparisons between the media landscape and political parties regarding the shift in leadership within the state, Congress General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge, Randeep Singh Surjewala, remarked on Tuesday that while a journalist may aspire to become an editor, the final decision rests with the channel's owner.
“Desires are common. Just like a journalist aspires to be an editor, in the end, it is the channel owner who makes the selection for the leading position. I have engaged in discussions with Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar regarding the leadership transition in Karnataka. I don’t see it as a significant concern,” Surjewala stated.
There have been calls from various factions within the Congress party and the state advocating for Chief Minister Siddaramiah's replacement with Shivakumar for the top role.
“Whatever Shivakumar had to express about this matter has been addressed. Mallikarjun Kharge has also acknowledged the situation,” he added when queried about the ongoing discussions surrounding leadership changes in the state.
In response to questions about party MLAs voicing concerns regarding the Congress-led government's operations, he acknowledged that MLAs may encounter issues.
"I have instructed them to document their concerns, and we will resolve them systematically," he stated.
Regarding Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar’s trip to Delhi, he remarked that they are there to advocate for Karnataka’s interests with the Union government.
The significance of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar’s Delhi visit has increased amid ongoing discussions about leadership changes, power-sharing, and internal discord within the party.
Both leaders are set to meet with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, despite directives from the high command, state Congress leaders continue to express their views on the leadership topic.
Congress MLA C.P. Yogeshwara, speaking to reporters on Tuesday, expressed his desire to see Shivakumar ascend to the Chief Minister position. He affirmed that all MLAs from the area support Shivakumar for the top role, emphasizing there is no disagreement on this matter.
Siddaramaiah has reaffirmed his commitment to serving a complete five-year term, while Shivakumar has expressed that whether through effort or prayer, his aspirations will eventually be realized.
