Bengaluru, Oct 7 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah revealed on Tuesday that the state government is contemplating the addition of the 'Ramayana' and its revered author, 'Maharshi Valmiki', to the school curriculum.
This announcement was made during his speech at the Valmiki Jayanti event held at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
Siddaramaiah assured attendees that the proposal from former minister V.S. Ugrappa to include both Maharshi Valmiki and the 'Ramayana' in educational syllabi will be given serious consideration.
He emphasized the significant contributions of the Valmiki community, noting that despite being denied formal education, Maharshi Valmiki created the monumental epic 'Ramayana', which holds universal relevance. He encouraged every community member to prioritize education.
Moreover, he highlighted the importance of communities claiming their rights and opportunities through organization and effort, referencing figures such as Ambedkar, Buddha, and Basavanna.
Earlier, after paying floral tributes at Shri Maharshi Valmiki Tapovan during the Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti, Siddaramaiah praised Maharshi Valmiki as a unique literary genius in Indian history.
He extended his warm wishes to the state's populace, stating that the celebration of Valmiki Jayanti serves as a tribute to the sage who, despite his origins in the Shudra community, gifted the world the remarkable 'Ramayana'.
He also mentioned that a statue of Valmiki was erected in 2017 and noted that saints like Valmiki and Kanakadasa lived socially responsible lives, embodying and imparting human values.
When asked about ministerial representation for Nayaka community MLAs, Siddaramaiah indicated that this would be assessed in an upcoming cabinet reshuffle.
In response to the incident involving a shoe thrown at the Chief Justice of India, CM Siddaramaiah expressed disapproval, labeling it an act by Manuvadi elements, despite the Chief Justice's own forgiveness of the event.
