Hyderabad, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently conducting an examination of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at his residence in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Under strict security protocols, the SIT officials arrived at KCR’s residence in Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills around 3 p.m.

The officials were observed carrying documents related to the case, as KCR is being interrogated based on the statements provided by the accused.

During the examination, KCR was situated in a room on the second floor, with his son and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and several other family members present.

The police enforced stringent security measures around KCR’s home to prevent any congregation of BRS supporters, erecting barricades on roads leading to Nandi Nagar.

These security measures were intensified due to plans by BRS leaders and workers to gather in his support, claiming that the questioning is politically motivated by the Congress government.

KCR had returned to Hyderabad from Erravalli village in Siddipet district after receiving a second notice from the SIT, instructing him to present himself for questioning. Upon his return, he was warmly welcomed by party leaders.

The SIT had initially summoned him for questioning on January 30, asking him to appear anywhere in Hyderabad. However, KCR requested to delay the examination due to his involvement in municipal elections.

He also suggested that the examination take place at his residence in Erravalli village, but this request was denied by the SIT. A second notice was subsequently posted at his Hyderabad residence on the night of January 30, mandating his presence for examination the following Sunday.

In response to the SIT, KCR confirmed he would be available at 3 p.m. on Sunday at his Nandi Nagar residence for the examination.

KCR also expressed his belief that the procedure followed by the SIT regarding the second notice would not withstand legal scrutiny, stating that posting the notice on his wall does not constitute a legitimate legal notice.

Nonetheless, he affirmed his commitment to attend the examination at 3 p.m. on Sunday, given his status as a former Chief Minister of Telangana and as the current Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly.

KCR is the highest-ranking BRS official to be questioned in this ongoing investigation, which involves allegations of phone tapping affecting numerous individuals, including political opponents, business figures, journalists, and judges during the BRS governance.

Previously, the SIT had also questioned other prominent BRS leaders such as K. T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, and Santosh Rao.

In the same case, BRS MLC K. Naveen Rao, former MLAs Jaipal Yadav and C. Lingaiah, as well as several witnesses and victims including Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Eatala Rajender, have already been interrogated.

The phone tapping controversy emerged in March 2024, leading to the registration of an FIR under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, and the Information Technology Act at Panjagutta Police Station in Hyderabad.

Reports suggest that a special team was allegedly formed within the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) during the BRS administration to conduct phone taps on various individuals.

The main accused in this case is former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao, along with other accused individuals including Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Praneeth Rao and former DCP Radha Kishan Rao.

Point of View
