Is KCR Ready for His SIT Examination in Hyderabad?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 1 (NationPress) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao made his way to his residence in Hyderabad on Sunday, preparing for his questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) concerning the telephone-tapping matter.
Known popularly as KCR, the BRS chief is scheduled to be interrogated by SIT officials at 3 p.m. on Sunday at his residence located in Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills.
In anticipation, police have heightened security measures around KCR's home, establishing barricades to prevent any congregation nearby. Only family members are permitted entry.
This heightened security is in response to potential gatherings by BRS leaders and supporters, who claim KCR is being targeted due to political vendetta from the Congress government.
As BRS activists plan demonstrations statewide, the Director General of Police has instructed all police commissioners and superintendents to take necessary precautions to prevent any disturbances and maintain public order.
The directive from the DGP's office warns that BRS members might conduct surprise protests, including dharna, rasta roko, rallies, and burning effigies of the Chief Minister at various locations statewide. Furthermore, with upcoming municipal elections, BRS activists may attempt to escalate tensions.
The SIT had issued a summons to KCR on Friday, requesting his presence in Hyderabad. However, he requested a different date due to his involvement in municipal elections.
KCR also suggested that the examination take place at his residence in Erravalli village, Siddipet. Nevertheless, the SIT declined his request and, in a follow-up notice posted on January 30, instructed him to be present in Hyderabad.
In his response to the SIT, KCR confirmed his availability at 3 p.m. on Sunday at his Nandi Nagar residence for the questioning.
He articulated concerns regarding the legitimacy of the SIT's second notice, asserting that pasting it on his wall was not legally valid. In a detailed six-page reply, KCR cited various Supreme Court and High Court judgments regarding proper notice delivery, arguing that the Jubilee Hills' Assistant Commissioner of Police lacked jurisdiction as his residence falls outside their area.
However, acknowledging his position as a former Chief Minister of Telangana and the current Leader of Opposition, KCR stated he would comply with the SIT's request and be present for examination.
KCR stands as the most prominent BRS figure to be questioned in this case, which involves allegations of phone tapping targeting various individuals, including political rivals, business leaders, journalists, and judges during the BRS administration.
Previously, the SIT interrogated BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, and Santosh Rao.
