Thiruvananthapuram, April 8 (NationPress) The state of Kerala is gearing up for its Assembly elections on April 9, where voters will select 140 representatives for the Legislative Assembly. Polling will commence at 7 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m.
Approximately 2.71 crore individuals are eligible to vote, comprising 1.32 crore men, 1.39 crore women, and 273 transgender individuals. Additionally, over 2.42 lakh overseas voters will participate, highlighting the extensive reach of this democratic process.
Across Kerala, 30,495 polling stations have been established, which includes 24 auxiliary booths designed to manage the voter turnout effectively.
In an inclusive move, 352 polling stations will be staffed entirely by women, while 37 stations will be operated by persons with disabilities, promoting a diverse voting environment.
Leading political figures have been proactive in announcing their voting schedules to the media, thereby publicizing their respective parties. AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal is set to vote in Alappuzha at 8:30 a.m., while KPCC President Sunny Joseph will cast his vote at 7 a.m. in Kannur.
Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan will also vote at 7 a.m. in Paravur. Veteran politician and former Chief Minister A. K. Antony, alongside former Congress president M. M. Hassan, will vote in Thiruvananthapuram in the morning hours.
Senior Congress member Ramesh Chennithala has plans to vote in Alappuzha district, while Shashi Tharoor will participate in the state capital.
From the Left front, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI(M) state secretary M. V. Govindan, and Minister Kadanapally Ramachandran will cast their votes in Kannur.
Notably, popular film personalities like Mammootty in Kochi and Jagadish in Thiruvananthapuram will also join the electorate.
While Left leaders express confidence in securing a historic third term for Vijayan, Congress stalwarts are optimistic about achieving a century. Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA is hopeful to not only gain their first seat but also to win multiple seats this election.
