Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan is set to hold his first official meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 26 May, in New Delhi, in what is being seen as a politically significant engagement for the newly sworn-in state government. The meeting will mark the first formal interaction between the Prime Minister and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) administration in Kerala.

Congress High Command Meetings in Delhi

Satheesan arrived in New Delhi late on Friday for a packed schedule of meetings with senior Congress leaders. He first met Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal at around 9 am, followed by a discussion with Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge. He subsequently held separate meetings with Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

According to sources, Satheesan thanked the Congress high command for its support during the Assembly elections. Organisational matters and the party's future political strategy were also on the table during these interactions.

The Election Mandate Behind the Visit

Satheesan's Delhi engagements come on the back of a decisive electoral victory. The UDF won 102 seats in the Kerala Assembly elections, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was reduced to just 35 seats from its earlier tally of 99. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reopened its account in the state by winning three seats. Satheesan was sworn in as Chief Minister on 18 May, alongside 20 Cabinet colleagues.

Warm Reception at Kerala House

Satheesan's first visit to the national capital as Chief Minister drew enthusiastic crowds at Kerala House, where students and supporters gathered late into the night to greet him. The Chief Minister spent time interacting with visitors and posed for photographs, adding a celebratory note to the visit. He is expected to return to Kochi on Saturday before flying back to New Delhi ahead of the Monday meeting with the Prime Minister.
