Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 1 (NationPress) In a remarkable turn of events unprecedented in the history of Communist families in India, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's official residence, Cliff House, has experienced an extraordinary occurrence - every family member has been served summons or notices by Central investigative agencies, with the exception of his wife, Kamala Vijayan.

Both of the Chief Minister's children — daughter Veena and son Vivek — have encountered questioning or notices from agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), among others.

While the CPI-M consistently labels these actions as politically motivated witch-hunts, the notices have relentlessly targeted the Chief Minister's family.

What initiated with the controversial SNC-Lavalin case — currently pending before the Supreme Court — has evolved into several investigations linked to the gold smuggling case involving diplomatic channels, the Life Mission probe, the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) payment controversy, and most recently, the ED notice directed at the Chief Minister himself regarding the Masala Bond matter.

T. Veena, the Chief Minister's daughter, is entangled in cases associated with her company, Exalogic, which reportedly received payments without delivering services. She has already faced inquiries from the Central agencies.

Vivek Vijayan, the Chief Minister's son, was summoned by the ED concerning alleged financial connections uncovered during the Lavalin investigation, including payments made abroad for his education.

In response to the ED notice to CM Vijayan, Kerala Congress President and senior legislator Sunny Joseph claimed this is merely a diversionary tactic — 'a masala to draw public attention away from the Sabarimala-related issues facing the LDF government.'

He also asserted that it reflects a coordinated effort between the Central and state governments to support the Chief Minister during election season.

‘There is nothing new in this type of adjustment politics, and it will yield no results,’ Sunny Joseph remarked, deriding the development by saying, ‘This notice too will share the fate of a mountain birthing a mouse.’

Even when former Principal Secretary to CM Vijayan, M. Sivasankar, was apprehended in the gold smuggling case, investigations did not progress higher up the administrative hierarchy or into Cliff House.

Now that the Masala Bond case has brought the Chief Minister himself under ED scrutiny, the situation holds significant political weight.

With only Kamala Vijayan, the CM's wife, remaining unaffected by notices, Cliff House today stands at a pivotal intersection of legal inquiry and political symbolism.
