Kottayam, April 24 (NationPress) With the primary suspect in the horrific slaying of businessman Vijayakumar and his spouse Meera still in police custody, investigators are now exploring a potential connection between this double homicide and the enigmatic death of their son seven years prior.
The bodies of Vijayakumar and Meera were discovered on Tuesday morning by their domestic help, who found them in separate rooms of their home.
Initially, the Kerala Police dismissed any links between these two tragic events; however, the situation shifted with the involvement of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Kerala High Court has recently mandated the CBI to investigate the death of their son Gautam, age 27, whose dismembered body was located near a railway track in Kottayam back in 2017.
With both law enforcement agencies collaborating, they are now trying to uncover whether there is a more profound conspiracy connecting these two cases.
The accused, Amit, originally from Assam, had been employed by the couple at both their home and business.
Law enforcement indicates that Amit admitted to the murders, motivated by a grudge against Vijayakumar, who had previously lodged a police report accusing him of stealing a mobile phone. That phone was subsequently used to drain funds from the businessman’s bank account.
Arrested in November of last year, Amit’s pregnant wife returned to Assam post-arrest, where she tragically lost the child — an event that reportedly fueled Amit’s anger and led him to orchestrate the couple’s murder.
Significantly, the Kerala High Court had ordered a CBI investigation into Gautam’s death last month, following continued appeals from Vijayakumar. The Thiruvananthapuram CBI unit had just begun its investigation when the double murder occurred.
According to reports, both the CBI and state police are examining how Amit managed to obtain bail recently, allegedly assisted by unknown parties. The murder transpired mere days after his release.
Investigators have seized nine mobile phones from Amit, including three that belonged to the deceased couple. However, one mobile phone belonging to Vijayakumar remains missing, and it is suspected that this device may possess critical information regarding his son’s suspected murder.
Authorities are anticipated to interrogate the two individuals who facilitated Amit’s bail as suspicions mount that the deaths of Gautam and his parents could be part of a broader, more malevolent scheme.
