Palakkad, July 7 (NationPress) Kerala Health Minister Veena George stated on Monday that the condition of the Nipah-positive patient receiving treatment at Kozhikode Medical College and Hospital remains critical.
During a press conference following a high-level review meeting, the Minister remarked, “The patient remains in a serious condition. Currently, the second dose of monoclonal antibody treatment is being administered, and we are hopeful it will aid in controlling the infection.”
George indicated that a total of 173 individuals have been identified in the patient’s contact list, which includes 100 primary contacts and 73 secondary contacts. “Of the primary contacts, 52 are classified as high-risk and 42 as low-risk, comprising family members, relatives, and healthcare professionals,” she mentioned.
A three-kilometer radius surrounding the patient’s home has been designated as a containment zone. “The police have reported total cooperation from the public. This measure is crucial since the transmission risk is highest when symptoms peak,” the Minister added.
Furthermore, she noted that all contacts from July 1—the date when the patient first exhibited symptoms—are under strict observation. Field surveillance is ongoing within the containment zone, and officials are gathering retrospective data from the past six months.
In addition, veterinary experts have initiated inspections in the area. “We need to collect bat samples for analysis, and a request has been made to the Centre, as only central agencies are authorized to conduct such tests,” George stated, reassuring that there is no need for panic and that all necessary precautions are being implemented.
