Thiruvalla (Kerala), June 12 (NationPress) The elderly mother and two young children of Kerala nurse Renjitha Gopakumar were left heartbroken upon hearing the tragic news of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday, where she was among the passengers.
Gopakumar, aged 40, had secured a nursing position in London less than a year ago.
"Before that, she spent around five years in the Middle East. Just yesterday (Wednesday), she informed me that she was returning to London and anticipated a quick return," her neighbor recounted.
"She was on leave from her position in the government health service and had recently returned to discuss when she could rejoin her duties here. She was in the process of constructing her new home and had plans for a housewarming celebration on the 28th of this month," the neighbor continued.
The contractor for the new house shared that Gopakumar was preparing to return for good.
"She has a 10-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter. Renjitha’s mother was taking care of the children. She told me that since she was resuming her state service, I needed to expedite the completion of the new house," the contractor stated.
Gopakumar had departed on Wednesday, traveling by train to Chennai and then reaching Ahmedabad early on Thursday to board her flight to London’s Gatwick Airport.
Upon returning from school, her daughter was taken aback to see a crowd gathered outside their home.
Seeing her grandmother in tears and her brother sobbing, she began to cry as well, unaware of the reason.
Once she learned of the incident, she started crying out loudly.
"Renjitha was the pillar of her family and a genuinely good person. My grandchild and her child attend the same school. Just yesterday, before she left, she asked me to look after my mother and her children, assuring me she would be back very soon," another neighbor of Gopakumar reflected.
