Kerala to Host the 73rd National Town and Country Planners Conference Starting January 10

Thiruvananthapuram, January 8 (NationPress) - The city is preparing to host the 73rd National Town and Country Planners Conference over three days, beginning this Friday.
During the event, prominent urban planners and policymakers will engage in discussions focused on sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development of India's urban areas and overall landscapes.
The conference will center around the theme of 'Intelligent, Digital Spatial Planning and Governance', organized by the Institute of Town Planners, India (ITPI) from New Delhi, in collaboration with the Local Self Government Department (LSGD) of the Government of Kerala.
According to ITPI President N. K. Patel, the discussions will encompass various pressing issues tied to urban and rural development, including technological innovations, the effectiveness of smart cities, funding of local bodies, and strategies to mitigate the effects of climatic challenges.
Founded in 1951, ITPI stands as the foremost institution representing qualified urban planners in the nation, aiming to foster dynamic, inclusive, and integrated practices in town and country planning, education, research, and institutional mechanisms for vibrant, sustainable, and resilient socio-economic development across towns, cities, and regions.
V.P. Kulshrestha, ITPI Secretary General, stated that the conference aims to yield insights and perspectives that will aid in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat and the objective of transforming the nation into a $5 trillion economy.
As climate change increasingly threatens urban areas with challenges such as urban floods, landslides, and storms, town planners from all over the country are convening in the city.
India, characterized by its extensive coastline and extensive river systems, faces considerable risks due to climate change.
The conference will prominently address this critical issue and develop an action plan to tackle its implications on spatial planning.
Topics to be discussed will include geospatial technologies, data analytics, artificial intelligence, cloud-based platforms, virtual and augmented reality, and flexible and adaptive planning, all of which are vital for India's future progress.
The conference will also highlight Kerala's advancements in participatory planning, showcasing its status as the first state to implement the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution, which empowers local democracy.
This decentralized planning approach can effectively tackle various issues, including disaster management, climate change, local economic development, and women’s empowerment. Special presentations will be delivered by the Women Planners Forum.
