Bhubaneswar, Oct 21 (NationPress) The Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, on Tuesday, underscored the importance of ensuring a peaceful, transparent, free, and impartial by-election for the Nuapada Assembly constituency, which is currently vacant.
In a high-profile meeting with senior police officials in Cuttack, DGP Khurania assessed the security arrangements for the forthcoming by-election in Nuapada and stressed the necessity for its free and fair execution.
He instructed officials to strictly adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and ensure comprehensive security measures for VIPs and VVIPs during the electoral process.
The Odisha DGP also mandated the intensification of preventive measures under Sections 110 and 107 of the CrPc, which include the apprehension of suspicious individuals, curbing of illicit cash transactions, confiscation of illegal arms and alcohol, and the execution of outstanding non-bailable warrants to ensure stringent law and order.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that mobile patrols and flying squad operations need to be reinforced, along with the establishment of checkposts at all entry points to the constituency for thorough scrutiny of suspicious persons and vehicles.
Critical intelligence related to the by-election was shared at this high-level meeting.
Deputy Inspector Generals and district Superintendents of Police were advised to closely monitor the law and order situation in their respective districts.
To thwart potential Maoist activities during the by-election, ADGP (Operations) Sanjeeb Panda announced that combing operations and anti-Maoist initiatives will be heightened in areas affected by Maoist insurgency.
He confirmed that all relevant operational strategies have been finalized.
For the effective conduction of the election, a total of 14 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, five platoons of Odisha State Armed Police, and other resources including 35 mobile patrol units, 18 flying squads, and 18 Static Surveillance Teams will be deployed in Nuapada for the bypoll.
