Gandhinagar/New Delhi, April 6 (NationPress) Union Sports Minister and MP for Porbandar, Mansukh Mandaviya, criticized the Congress party on Monday for exhibiting a "negative attitude" towards Gujarat. This statement comes in the wake of comments made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge during a rally in Kerala, igniting a political controversy.

While addressing a gathering in Idukki ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Kharge remarked: “Don't mislead the people of Kerala. They are astute and educated. Modi and Vijayan, you may deceive those who are illiterate in Gujarat or other regions, but you cannot mislead the educated populace of Kerala.”

In response, Mandaviya stated, “The Congress party's negative attitude towards Gujarat is not a new phenomenon. They have historically downplayed the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and have obstructed the Narmada dam project, hindering the state's progress.”

Directly addressing Kharge's comments, he further expressed, “The recent remarks made by Kharge ji are indicative of the same negative mindset, revealing the bitterness and ill will towards Gujarat that is prevalent within Congress.”

Gujarat's Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, labeled the comments as “extremely objectionable and regrettable.”

“Kharge's statement regarding the people of Gujarat is not only objectionable but also diminishes the dignity of the revered land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,” Patel remarked.

He added, “Gujarat has always been a pioneer in nation-building, development, and unity, and will continue to be so. Such remarks reflect the narrow-mindedness of Congress.”

CM Patel continued, “This comment illustrates how uneasy and insecure Congress feels due to the development politics spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the substantial public support it garners.”

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also condemned Kharge's remarks, questioning, “Why does Congress harbor such animosity towards Gujarat? Why do you continuously target the people of Gujarat?”

Labeling the remarks as an insult, he added, “Is this an affront to six crore Gujaratis? Is this vengeance because the people of Gujarat voted you out of power?”

Sanghavi concluded, “The educated populace of Gujarat has consistently rejected Congress, which disrespects the sacred land of Gandhi and Patel, and will continue to do so.”

Kharge's comments were part of his campaign efforts in Kerala, where he aimed his criticism at both the BJP and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), escalating political tensions between the parties across different states.
