Bengaluru, Nov 1 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje commented on AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge’s call to impose a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), asserting that Kharge's remarks are influenced by Sonia Gandhi and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
At a press briefing at the BJP headquarters in Bengaluru on Saturday, the Minister stated, “I hold Mallikarjun Kharge in high regard; he is a seasoned politician with extensive experience. Nevertheless, he seems unable to express independent thoughts due to the sway of one family within his party. Throughout his 50 years in politics, he has never criticized the RSS,” she pointed out.
She further remarked, “After receiving guidance from Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Kharge has begun voicing opposition against the RSS and is now calling for its prohibition. Kharge ji, do remember — what former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru could not achieve, and what Indira Gandhi could not accomplish — can you succeed?” she posed.
Addressing Kharge and the Congress leadership, Shobha asserted, “What authority do you wield? What capabilities does Rahul Gandhi have? As merely the Leader of the Opposition, he is failing to fulfill even that role. Your party governed this nation for over 50 years, and during the UPA era, you were a Union Minister, yet you never contested against the RSS.
“Why raise your voice now? Is it to engage in appeasement politics aimed at satisfying a specific community? That’s why Kharge is advocating for a ban on the RSS. But this will never materialize. What was unachievable for Nehru and Indira Gandhi will not be feasible for you. The RSS will persist,” she emphasized.
“Each of us, from children to elders, is linked with the RSS. You may find it intolerable, but we will remain unfazed and continue to progress. The RSS exists to defend the nation, promote our culture, and uphold Hindutva. The RSS is committed to safeguarding Sanatana Dharma, and we will exhibit that through our deeds,” Shobha stated.
Mallikarjun Kharge's son, Priyank Kharge, who serves as the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, has ignited controversy in Karnataka by penning a letter to the Chief Minister urging a ban on RSS activities in public places.
He also wrote another letter requesting action against government officials for their connections with the RSS. In response, the BJP state unit released an image of Mallikarjun Kharge participating in an RSS event in Bengaluru. However, Priyank Kharge insisted that his father attended the event in his capacity as Home Minister of Karnataka to caution the organizers.
The Karnataka government, although not directly naming the RSS, has mandated that all private organizations obtain authorization from authorities. The High Court has temporarily stayed this order.
