Kolkata, June 25 (NationPress) Following the arrest of four individuals linked to the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl in a bomb explosion at Kaliganj in West Bengal's Nadia district, the victim's family has voiced serious concerns regarding the district police. They allege that local authorities are protecting the primary suspects and are demanding a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), officials reported on Wednesday.
The family, along with local residents, claims that the girl, Tamanna Khatun, lost her life due to shrapnel from a bomb thrown during a victory parade for the ruling Trinamool Congress, celebrating the win of candidate Alifa Ahmed in the recent Kaliganj bypolls, results of which were announced on Monday.
Sabina Yasmin, the victim's mother, accused the investigating officials of neglecting the political motivations behind the bombing incident that specifically targeted her home, resulting in her daughter's death.
Yasmin stated that her house was deliberately attacked because her family has long-standing ties to the CPI-M party. She raised concerns about the limited number of arrests, questioning how only four individuals could have executed such a coordinated attack involving approximately 40 to 50 bombs.
"The attacks on CPI-M affiliated families began shortly after the 11th round of counting, indicating the ruling party's victory. They bombarded all sides of my home, including the roof. My residence was littered with bomb fragments, and I even sustained a head injury. I recognized the assailants, all of whom are linked to the Trinamool Congress," Yasmin claimed.
On Tuesday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) took note of the incident and requested clarifications from Krishnanagar District Superintendent of Police, Amarnath K, regarding security measures during the Trinamool Congress victory procession.
The NCW's questions included whether the police had implemented adequate security protocols during the event and if there had been prior intelligence about potential violence or presence of firearms and bombs among the attendees. They have mandated responses to these inquiries within 72 hours.
