New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has strongly denounced the offensive slogans directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent Congress rally, insisting that the party leadership must issue a public apology in Parliament. Speaking to the media, Rijiju remarked, “The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is celebrated globally and by our nation's 1.4 billion citizens as the figurehead of the world’s largest democracy. It is profoundly disheartening and unacceptable that any opposition member would call for his demise. Simply denying this is insufficient.”
“The Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament owe an apology to the nation. If there exists any semblance of humanity and respect for our country and society within the Congress Party, they must not hesitate to publicly apologize on the floor of Parliament. Only then can we discern that a mistake was made and that the Congress Party has accepted it,” he continued.
Rijiju stressed that political disputes should never escalate into personal threats or acts of violence. “Regardless of our political disagreements, we still extend our goodwill during occasions like illnesses, birthdays, or other significant events, out of mutual respect. We honor each other,” he noted.
“Political disagreements are a natural part of democracy,” Rijiju explained, adding that everyone is entitled to participate in politics, and we critique or oppose each other in various ways. “Yet, no one should ever contemplate or speak of killing another individual. What mindset leads to such blatant encouragement of violence against an opponent?” he questioned.
The Union Minister specifically referred to the contentious slogans and remarks made at the Congress rally on Sunday, where some attendees allegedly called for “digging the grave” of the Prime Minister and urged party members to kill him.
“The Congress Party conducted a rally yesterday, and the citizens of the country heard the statements made there. In a democracy, we are colleagues, not adversaries. However, at the Congress rally, threats were made regarding the Prime Minister’s life, and Congress members were incited to kill him. I believe such a low and disgraceful discourse has never been witnessed in a democracy before,” Rijiju asserted.
He reiterated that the ongoing parliamentary session represents the appropriate platform for the Congress leadership to recognize their misstep. “The ongoing parliamentary session is the perfect opportunity for the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition to apologize to the citizens of our nation,” Rijiju concluded, emphasizing the necessity for accountability and respect for democratic principles.
