Did Kiren Rijiju Accuse 20-25 Congress MPs of Abusing the LS Speaker and Threatening PM?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 12 (NationPress) The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, recently released a new video alleging that approximately 20-25 Congress MPs verbally abused Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and issued threats towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a post on the social media platform X, Rijiju stated that had the BJP and NDA MPs been allowed “full freedom,” the situation might have escalated into chaos, but the ruling coalition chose to exercise restraint to prevent an unpleasant incident.
“If I had allowed full freedom to the BJP and NDA MPs, it would have resulted in chaos. We did not want that. Around 20-25 MPs forcefully entered the Speaker’s chamber. I rushed to see what was happening and witnessed their misbehavior. They were using abusive language. Priyanka Gandhi was also present, and they insulted both the Speaker and the PM in front of her,” Rijiju explained.
He further asserted that while Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not participate in the abusive behavior, several Congress MPs allegedly used offensive language in their presence.
“Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi ji didn’t engage in any abuse. However, under their watch, Congress MPs were quite foul-mouthed. They were saying, ‘See what we will do to the Prime Minister of this country. Watch how we will treat him in Parliament.’ This has all been recorded,” he claimed.
Rijiju alleged that the government initially hesitated to discuss the matter publicly but decided to address it due to Congress “spreading lies repeatedly.”
“We didn’t want to speak out, but Congress keeps spreading lies. That’s why we decided to make this public. We want to demonstrate our patience and the great effort we have put in,” he added.
The minister took a jab at Rahul Gandhi, expressing a lack of hope for any change in his conduct within Parliament.
“We don’t expect Rahul Gandhi to reform and communicate appropriately. However, as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister and he as the Leader of Opposition, we hope for change,” Rijiju stated.
He reminisced about a time early in his parliamentary career when former BJP leader L.K. Advani stressed the importance of maintaining decorum and respecting parliamentary boundaries.
“When I first entered Parliament, Advani ji was quite displeased with us when, by accident, we occupied the middle of the House. There is a designated area for the ruling party and another for the opposition,” he reflected.
Rijiju noted that even during protests, Advani advised them to stay within their allocated space.
He also shared an earlier post from February 10, where he included visuals from Parliament, stating, “The Congress Party is proud of the most degrading behavior by their MPs! Had we not intervened and allowed the women MPs to confront Congress MPs, it would have led to a very ugly scene. We hold a high regard for maintaining the dignity and sanctity of Parliament.”
