Did Kiren Rijiju Share a Video of February 4 LS Proceedings Showing BJP MPs' Restraint?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju shared a video capturing the Lok Sabha session from February 4, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was due to respond to the President's Address. However, the women MPs from the Congress party caused a significant disruption in the well of the House.
This incident follows a letter from Congress's women MPs to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, wherein they expressed strong disapproval of what they termed as "serious allegations" regarding their supposed attempts to "threaten or obstruct" PM Modi during the session on February 4. The Congress party has dismissed these claims, suggesting that the Prime Minister was "too intimidated to speak" in Parliament.
The video revealed Congress women MPs holding banners and placards, encircling the Prime Minister's usual seat. This led to the cancellation of Modi's anticipated response to the Motion of Thanks regarding the President's Address.
On the platform X, Rijiju remarked, "The Congress Party takes pride in the most disgraceful conduct exhibited by their MPs! Had we not intervened to restrain our BJP MPs from engaging with the Congress women MPs, it would have resulted in an exceedingly chaotic situation."
The Union Minister also shared a clip from Congress on X, where PM Modi instructed the Lok Sabha Speaker to stay away from the House as he believed Congress women MPs were poised to confront him aggressively.
"We hold a deep commitment to uphold the dignity and integrity of Parliament," he stated.
The controversy began following Speaker Birla's announcement that he had received indications that opposition MPs might engage in "unexpected actions," leading him to adjourn the House to avert any unpleasant occurrences in what he referred to as the temple of democracy.
As the clock neared 5 p.m. on February 4, MPs awaited the Prime Minister's arrival to initiate his address. However, protests persisted within the House, during which approximately eight to nine women MPs from the Opposition reportedly surrounded the designated seat of the Prime Minister. Among those identified were Geniben Thakor, Varsha Gaikwad, Jyotimati, R. Sudha, K. Kavya, and Shobha Bachhav. This incident is captured in the video shared by Rijiju.
