What Did Rijiju Reveal About the Feb 4 Lok Sabha Turmoil?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju shared a video on Tuesday showcasing the extraordinary and unparliamentary conflict that erupted in the Lok Sabha on February 4. He criticized the Congress and opposition MPs for their most degrading actions, which could have transformed the House into a battlefield without careful management.
The incident occurred during the Lok Sabha session when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was preparing to respond to the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. Several women Congress MPs approached the Prime Minister's seat, seemingly aiming to obstruct his entry and confront him.
The video shared by Rijiju depicts these women MPs encircling the Prime Minister’s chair and refusing to move, despite repeated attempts by various Union Ministers to persuade them.
In this video, multiple ministers, including Ashwini Vaishnaw and Giriraj Singh, are seen imploring the women lawmakers to return to their seats and avoid such unparliamentary conduct. Nevertheless, the women remained steadfast, holding banners and posters.
This situation led Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to suggest that the Prime Minister should withdraw from the proceedings, as it could have resulted in an unpleasant and volatile scenario. Ultimately, the Lower House passed the Motion of Thanks without the Prime Minister’s response.
Kiren Rijiju condemned the Congress party for encouraging its women MPs to impede the Prime Minister's path, stating that BJP lawmakers exhibited maturity and restraint; otherwise, it could have resulted in chaos within the House.
“The Congress Party takes pride in the most degrading behavior exhibited by their MPs! If we had not intervened and allowed the Women MPs to confront our MPs, it could have escalated into a very ugly situation. We hold a high regard for the dignity and sanctity of Parliament,” he remarked while sharing the revealing video.
This incident provides a unique insight into the highly contentious atmosphere that unfolded in the Lok Sabha during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address. It illustrates the opposition MPs' attempts to create hostility towards the treasury benches, while BJP MPs and ministers are seen urging them to protest without overstepping limits.
