Rakesh Singh is scheduled to appear in front of a Sealdah court later today, where authorities will request his custody.
Upon his arrest at approximately 2 a.m., Singh chanted slogans like 'Narendra Modi Zindabad' and proclaimed, 'Rakesh Singh fears no one'.
According to police, Rakesh Singh was captured following a tip-off and will be presented in court today.
The BJP leader had been evading authorities since orchestrating the vandalism at the Congress headquarters on August 29.
Despite his evasion, he remained active on social media, posting videos criticizing law enforcement.
On Monday, police apprehended Singh's son, Shivam Singh, for allegedly assisting his father's flight, as he is the primary suspect in the vandalism case.
In response to his son's arrest, Rakesh Singh took to social media, accusing the police of targeting his family after failing to capture him.
Prior to arresting his son, law enforcement officials detained three associates of Rakesh Singh: Vijayprasad Dhanuk, Santoshkumar Rajbhar, and Dibyendu Samanta.
Last Saturday, a police team visited Rakesh's residence as part of their investigation but did not find him there. The arrests stem from an FIR filed by Congress regarding the attack and the defacement of posters featuring their leaders, including Rahul Gandhi.
On Friday, Singh led a group of BJP supporters in a violent protest at the state Congress headquarters on CIT Road in central Kolkata, where they burned party flags and defaced posters of party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, in response to alleged insults directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Rahul Gandhi's 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar.
