Kolkata Police Uncover Notorious Call Centre Scam, 19 Individuals Detained

Kolkata, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police have dismantled a significant call centre scam in the state capital, leading to the detention of 19 individuals, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.
The arrests took place late on Monday night.
City police sources disclosed that the scam involved enticing victims with an offer to download and install an anti-malware application on their devices.
Once the victims fell for this deception, their device data was compromised, resulting in substantial financial losses from their bank accounts.
Based on a specific complaint from one victim, the detectives initiated an investigation, which traced the fraudulent activities back to a residential flat located in Ballygunge, South Kolkata.
A team of investigators conducted a surprise raid at the premises late Monday night, apprehending 19 suspects in the process.
During the raid, several laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices were confiscated from the flat.
The flat has been sealed off, as stated by the officials.
Investigators suspect that the 19 detained individuals were merely employees of the fraudulent call centre, with the true masterminds operating from behind the scenes and possibly at different locations. The suspects are currently being interrogated to gather information to identify the ringleaders of this scam.
It has come to light that the targets of the scam were not only from India but also included victims from overseas. The detained individuals are expected to be presented in a lower court later today, where the public prosecutor will request their police custody.
Further updates regarding the case are anticipated.
