Kolkata, Feb 23 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police are delving into the perplexing case involving the deaths of three family members, including a minor girl, which occurred on February 19. Investigators have discovered that the family was burdened with significant debts while leading a lavish lifestyle, despite facing financial difficulties, according to sources on Sunday.
The police plan to detain the two hospitalized husbands of the deceased women, Prasun De and Pranay Dey, following their discharge from the hospital.
These brothers are under suspicion for the murders of their wives and the daughter of one of them early on February 19, prior to their attempt at suicide.
However, their suicide attempt was thwarted when their vehicle was involved in a serious accident, leading to their hospitalization.
The bodies of the women and the young girl were discovered by the traffic department of Kolkata Police at their residence in Tangra, located in the eastern outskirts of Kolkata, while investigating the accident.
Investigators have ruled out suicide as a possibility based on the autopsy results, raising suspicions against the two brothers.
Initial investigations revealed that the Dey family, who ran a leather goods business, had amassed considerable debts, which may have driven the brothers to such extreme actions.
Further inquiries into the family's close associates indicated that the brothers maintained a luxurious lifestyle despite their mounting debts, exacerbating their financial situation.
The deceased women are identified as Romi Dey and Sudeshna Dey, with Romi being the wife of Prasun De. The young victim, Priyamvada Dey (14), is the daughter of Prasun and Romi.
Notably, all CCTV cameras within the residence were turned off on the day of the incident.
