New Delhi, June 28 (NationPress) Senior BJP leaders have launched a fierce critique of the Trinamool Congress government, led by Mamata Banerjee, in light of the shocking rape incident involving a woman at a law college in Kolkata. They accuse the ruling party of failing to uphold law and order and safeguard women throughout the state.
In a strong statement, BJP leader and former Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi expressed, “It is indeed tragic that Kolkata is increasingly being viewed as the crime capital. When the state capital becomes a hub for crime, and measures are taken to justify or shield the actions of criminals rather than address them, it signifies a grave issue.”
The distressing incident occurred on the evening of June 25, when a student from a Kolkata law college was assaulted.
In a show of solidarity, BJP leader Dilip Jaiswal called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, citing a total failure in governance.
“The previous incident at the medical college in West Bengal was quite severe, and Mamata Banerjee’s government ought to have taken lessons from it. However, her administration appears to be spiraling out of control, leading to a collapse of democratic systems. The comments made by Kalyan Banerjee (Trinamool Congress MP) regarding how to approach constitutional matters also warrant scrutiny. Hence, it is imperative that Mamata Banerjee resigns at once,” he stated.
BJP MP Locket Chatterjee highlighted a concerning trend.
“Exactly one year ago, the RG Kar case occurred. Today marks the anniversary of that incident, and there was widespread belief that it would be taken seriously. Numerous individuals rallied in protest back then. Now, as we reach this one-year milestone, another similar case has surfaced, and it has happened right in Kolkata, within a college campus,” she noted.
This incident has reignited discussions surrounding campus safety, policing standards, and the response of the Mamata Banerjee government to instances of violence against women in the state.
