Kolkata, June 28 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared the establishment of a four-member investigative team to delve into the troubling case of a law student’s rape that occurred on the law college grounds in Kasba, Kolkata earlier this week.
In response, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu has requested an urgent report from the college's administration regarding this distressing incident.
The BJP's statement identified the four members of the fact-finding team. They include former Union Minister and police officer Satpal Singh, former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, current Lok Sabha member and former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb, and current Rajya Sabha member Manan Kumar Mishra.
The team is scheduled to visit the site of the incident and provide a report to BJP President J.P. Nadda, as per the statement.
Meanwhile, Minister Basu has instructed the law college authorities to promptly convene a governing body meeting to discuss the situation and prepare a comprehensive report for the state Education department by next week.
The Education Minister has emphasized the need to enhance security measures on campus and to inform the state Education department about the necessity for additional security personnel.
“I am astonished. I am appalled that such an occurrence could take place within the college premises,” stated Minister Basu.
Additionally, the National Commission of Women has issued a statement indicating that its chairperson, Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, has sent a letter to West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, directing him to ensure that police facilitate access for NCW member Archana Mujumdar to the victim and her family.
The NCW Chief has also mandated the Chief Secretary to guarantee a prompt and confidential internal medical examination of the victim, with results to be submitted to the commission within three days.
