Hyderabad, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Working President of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K.T. Rama Rao, expressed his support for Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, on Wednesday, emphasizing that the delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies based on population impacts all of South India.

The BRS leader concurred with the DMK chief's viewpoint that states successfully managing their populations should not face penalties.

“I completely align with Thiru Stalin and offer my strong backing for his stance. It is unjust to penalize the Southern states for their diligent adherence to family planning during critical times for the nation,” K.T. Rama Rao remarked on ‘X’.

“Implementing delimitation without acknowledging the efforts of Southern states contradicts the principles of democracy and federalism,” he further stated.

The BRS Working President also suggested that delimitation should take into account the fiscal contributions of states.

“If the Centre is determined to proceed with delimitation, I advocate for it to be based on states’ fiscal contributions to the nation. The significant inputs from Telangana and other Southern states towards national development cannot be overlooked. For instance, although Telangana represents only 2.8% of the country’s population, it contributes over 5.2% to the nation’s GDP,” wrote KTR.

The DMK chief had earlier indicated that delimitation is not solely a Tamil Nadu issue, but one that affects all of South India.

“A democratic process should not penalize states that have effectively controlled population growth, excelled in development, and made substantial contributions to national progress. We require a fair, transparent, and equitable approach that honors true federalism,” stated CM Stalin.

In 2023, K.T. Rama Rao cautioned that a southern uprising could ensue if South Indian representation in Parliament diminishes due to proposed population-based delimitation.

The BRS leader remarked that citizens of South India would express their concerns irrespective of political affiliations. He also announced that the BRS, in collaboration with like-minded parties, would initiate discussions regarding the proposed delimitation and relay their sentiments to the Government of India.

The BRS leader referenced AIMIM head and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who noted that South India is on the brink of significant unrest over the delimitation issue.
