Bengaluru, June 11 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP unit has criticized the Congress-led state government’s recent announcement to conduct a new caste census survey, claiming it is an attempt to divert attention from their failures regarding the recent stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in the tragic loss of 11 lives.
BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra stated, "Whenever the Congress government encounters a crisis due to its administrative shortcomings, they bring up the caste census. This isn't motivated by social concern but is merely a tactic to distract the populace from pressing issues."
He emphasized, "The entire nation mourns the tragic deaths of 11 innocent individuals in the Bengaluru stampede. However, the Congress government, plagued by public discontent over its fixation on publicity, is once again revisiting the caste census. This move to mask their failings is indeed regrettable."
Vijayendra further questioned, "By planning to redo the caste census, is the government acknowledging that the Rs 160 crore already spent on the previous census was a total waste?"
He pointed out that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's remarks seem to confirm this reality. He warned that the citizens are nearing a point where they will hold the Congress government accountable for its deceitful tactics, irresponsibility, and anti-people policies.
BJP General Secretary and MLA, V. Sunil Kumar, accused the Congress high command of rejecting the caste census report, stating, "This report, which cost Rs 160 crore, was a significant deception to taxpayers and marginalized communities."
He continued, "The BJP has consistently argued that the data in the caste census report was flawed and needed reevaluation, yet CM Siddaramaiah maintained his dismissive stance even on such a critical issue."
Sunil Kumar recounted how CM Siddaramaiah had presented the report in a Cabinet meeting and was moving towards its acceptance in Nandi Hills, only for the Congress high command to intervene, declaring the data incorrect and mandating a recount, effectively discarding the report.
"Both CM Siddaramaiah and the Congress high command have disregarded the sentiments of the backward classes and marginalized communities in the state. For a decade, Siddaramaiah has exploited this issue to mislead the populace and instigate dissatisfaction among communities. Due to these blunders, both Siddaramaiah and the Congress party owe the people of Karnataka an apology," he stated.
Previously, the Congress government in Karnataka had announced plans to update its caste census report through a resurvey, the timeline for which will be revealed by CM Siddaramaiah following a Cabinet discussion.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar confirmed this during a media briefing in New Delhi after meeting with Congress leaders, stating, "We have decided to address the discord concerning the caste census and the confusion surrounding community statistics. Everyone will have another chance to provide their information through house-to-house surveys and online submissions, ensuring full transparency in the process."
