Bengaluru, July 4 (NationPress) - BJP MP and president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Tejasvi Surya, heavily criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government regarding the stampede tragedy that occurred during the victory celebrations for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team, who triumphed in the IPL 2025. Surya expressed, "This is not what the people of Bengaluru deserve."
On social media, he lamented on Wednesday, "I am absolutely devastated by the tragic news from Chinnaswamy. What should have been a moment of joy and celebration turned into a devastating event."
Surya highlighted that while the state government and its leaders were focused on basking in the glory of RCB’s victory, with the Chief Minister even extending public invitations for the celebration, they neglected to make appropriate arrangements for crowd control.
He pointed out that despite being aware of potential issues the night before, the government failed to implement a plan and opted for bizarre last-minute decisions.
"Immediate actions must be taken to provide support to the victims and hold those responsible accountable," he insisted.
In response, the Karnataka BJP unit condemned the Congress-led government for the incident, stating via social media X, "No crowd management, no basic arrangements, just total chaos. While innocent lives were lost, CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar were busy creating photo opportunities with cricketers. This Congress government should be ashamed."
The party further declared, "This is a case of criminal negligence. The bloodshed is on the hands of the Congress government."
The joyous celebrations for RCB’s first-ever IPL victory turned tragic as over 30 fans were injured, with 11 feared dead due to a stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The chaos erupted when hordes of fans rushed to enter the stadium from multiple entrances. Injured individuals were transported by police to ambulances and taken to the nearby Bowring Hospital.
Authorities mentioned that the ambulances faced delays in reaching the hospital due to the overwhelming crowds on the roads.
