Bengaluru, June 6 (NationPress) The political climate in Karnataka has heated up following a devastating stampede near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, resulting in the tragic loss of 11 lives during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations.
As sorrow and frustration rise, the Opposition has been vocal, with BJP officials placing the blame for this calamity firmly on the Karnataka government.
BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched a fierce critique of the Congress-led administration, labeling it as “the most inept, corrupt, incompetent, and heartless government in all of India.”
In a statement to IANS, Chandrasekhar remarked, "Currently, in Karnataka, pensioners are struggling to receive their pensions while farmers are fighting to avoid suicide. This is an anti-people government. They made numerous promises during the elections, deceived the populace, and came to power."
Referring to the images of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at the RCB celebrations, he added, “The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were in the stadium celebrating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory, as if they played any part in that success. Meanwhile, fans, the true heroes of the celebration, were tragically trampled outside. This exemplifies the insensitivity of the Karnataka government.”
He further questioned the Deputy Chief Minister’s public praise of the police. “How can you commend the police after 11 people have lost their lives? Where is Rahul Gandhi calling for accountability? This is the classic hypocrisy of the Congress party.”
In agreement, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla referred to the incident as a "state-sponsored man-made disaster."
“In their attempt to save themselves, they are incessantly searching for scapegoats. While action has been taken against the event manager and the team, the leaders who permitted this man-made disaster to occur for their own publicity have yet to face consequences,” Poonawalla stated.
He questioned why the celebration was allowed at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium despite reports of police not granting permission.
“When the police denied permission, what was D.K. Shivakumar doing there? The government is directly accountable, including both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. Yet, to protect themselves, they are blaming others,” he said.
Poonawalla also condemned the government’s choice to conduct only a magisterial inquiry rather than a judicial investigation. “A comprehensive investigation is essential. Their reluctance for a judicial probe is indicative of their desire to shield themselves,” he asserted.
In the wake of the incident, Bengaluru Police have arrested four individuals, including the marketing head of RCB, raising further concerns about event planning and crowd management.
