Should We Be Cautious While Speaking? K’taka Home Minister Comments on Colleague’s Remarks About Pahalgam Attack

Bengaluru, April 29 (NationPress) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara emphasized on Tuesday the necessity for individuals to exercise caution in their speech during this critical period, especially following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in 26 fatalities.

While addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Parameshwara responded to remarks made by Excise Minister R.B. Timmapur regarding the Pahalgam attack, stating, “It is inappropriate to analyze the terrorists' inquiry about the victims' religion prior to their execution.”

“When multiple statements are issued, the significance of the subject diminishes. It is imperative to abstain from personal opinions on such sensitive issues. We must be vigilant in our communications as it pertains to the nation's security, ” Parameshwara asserted.

“I have previously stated that we must tackle the Pahalgam attack issue without being bogged down by party politics, making decisions accordingly. I reiterate, this should transcend politics. We fully support the security measures undertaken by the Central government. The Congress party has officially declared its intention to stand united on matters of national security,” he further remarked.

When queried about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s comments regarding a lack of war with Pakistan, Parameshwara noted that the Chief Minister had clarified his statement and emphasized that war must be fought when it becomes unavoidable.

In response to allegations of Congress leaders adopting a soft stance regarding the Pahalgam attack, Parameshwara stated that no party has made greater sacrifices for the nation than the Congress. “The Congress party has made immense sacrifices for the country. There is absolutely no question of retreating when it comes to defending our national security,” he stated emphatically.

“The BJP is in power at the Center and must act responsibly. Those in positions of authority must respond appropriately. Our representatives in the all-party meeting have made it clear that such acts of terrorism will not be tolerated,” Parameshwara remarked.

When asked about the disruption of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s address at a convention by BJP workers, he commented, “I do not have complete information yet. I have seen media reports but lack full details on why the Chief Minister was so disturbed. I will provide a response once I gather more information.”

“It is evident that BJP Mahila Morcha workers entered the convention donning Congress shawls. They did not disrupt others' speeches, only that of CM Siddaramaiah. They displayed black flags and raised slogans. We are investigating potential lapses by the department. I have requested a report from the ADGP (Law and Order), and I will provide further comments once I receive it,” he added.

Addressing the BJP’s criticism regarding Congress talking about intelligence failures linked to the Pahalgam attack while failing to stop the disruption at the convention, Parameshwara responded, “The BJP workers entered wearing Congress shawls. Had they come in BJP shawls, it would have been evident whether there was an intelligence failure. I fail to understand why the BJP resorted to such tactics, as this confusion could lead to unfortunate incidents.”

Regarding the honey trap case involving Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna, who alleged attempts were made to trap him but later provided no evidence and only recorded his statement, Parameshwara stated, “After the statement is recorded, further investigation will continue.”

On the subject of returning Pakistani nationals from Karnataka, Parameshwara noted, “The Central government has exempted individuals with long-term visas and those who have settled here through marriage. All others have been sent back to Pakistan.”
