Hyderabad, Jan 1 (NationPress) K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), demanded on Thursday that if the Telangana government plans to present a PowerPoint in the Legislative Assembly, then the principal Opposition party, the BRS, should also receive an equal chance to showcase its perspective, emphasizing the essence of parliamentary democracy.
While addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan, KTR remarked that once lawmakers are inside the Assembly, there shouldn't be any hierarchy between the Chief Minister and regular legislators. “All 120 MLAs possess the same rights within the House. If the government shares its viewpoint, the Opposition should equally be permitted to present its facts,” he stated.
The Telangana government is expected to unveil a PowerPoint presentation in the Assembly on Friday regarding irrigation projects and river water-sharing matters.
“You present your viewpoint, and allow us to present ours. As the principal Opposition, we are completely equipped to illustrate how Telangana's agriculture and irrigation have evolved over the past decade under BRS leadership,” KTR, commonly referred to as the BRS leader, expressed.
KTR confidently stated that the BRS is ready to provide evidence and data to the Assembly.
Reflecting on a past event, KTR mentioned that when the previous Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, delivered a PowerPoint presentation in the Assembly on March 31, 2016, the Congress party boycotted the session, deeming it a breach of parliamentary traditions. “What was deemed unacceptable then—how has it suddenly become permissible now?” he questioned.
A letter has been sent to the Speaker requesting fairness and equal opportunities for the Opposition regarding this matter.
In a sharp critique of the Congress government, KTR challenged the Chief Minister’s grasp of irrigation and river water issues. He accused the Chief Minister of incorrectly asserting that the Bhakra Nangal Project is situated in Telangana, when it is actually located in Himachal Pradesh.
“A Chief Minister who lacks knowledge about fundamental river basins wants to teach us about irrigation?” KTR questioned, noting the Chief Minister's ignorance about the river basin relevant to the Devadula project.
KTR pointed out the government's shortcomings in the irrigation sector, referencing the collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel that resulted in eight fatalities, the failure of the Sunkishala project, and the inundation of the Vattem pump house.
“What lessons should we learn from you—how to make check dams fail, how Medigadda collapsed, or how Telangana’s rightful share in Krishna waters was surrendered to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB)?” he asked.
KTR further criticized the Congress government for ignoring the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme for the last two years and questioned if even a single additional acre had received irrigation water during the current administration.
“Have they repaired even one tank or restored a single canal?” KTR asked.
