Defence spokesperson Lt Col Mahendra Rawat noted that the event held on Thursday aimed to cultivate a sense of belonging and spread joy among the youngsters as the New Year dawned.
The soldiers engaged closely with the children, emphasizing that the Army's mission extends beyond protecting borders to encompass compassion and social responsibility, he remarked.
The day began with a friendly interaction with all the children, followed by the ceremonial cake-cutting for the New Year and the distribution of gifts.
A tea party was also organized for both the children and the staff of the orphanage. Lt Col Rawat reiterated that this initiative highlighted the Indian Army's ethos of service before self, reinforcing the connection between the armed forces and the community, thereby enhancing the sense of unity within society.

This rally aims to honor the selfless contributions of veterans and will focus on their welfare and well-being in a comprehensive manner.
It is anticipated that over 7,000 ex-servicemen and their families from various districts in eastern Assam will participate, making it one of the largest veteran outreach programs in the area.
