A woman in Haryana's Kurukshetra allegedly killed her husband and severely mutilated his body before jumping from the terrace of their rented home on 24 August, after being spotted by their landlord, police officials said. The victim, Rajesh, was found lying in a pool of blood with extensive abdominal injuries at their rented residence near Raj Palace on Pehowa Road.

How the Incident Came to Light

The couple's landlord, Rinku, was alerted by sounds of a heated argument at around 5 pm and went to check on them. Upon reaching the terrace, Rinku allegedly found Rajesh with serious injuries to his abdomen. According to reports, he also saw the accused, Vimla Devi, allegedly placing Rajesh's intestines — which had protruded from his body — into a bag. On noticing the landlord, Vimla reportedly panicked and jumped from the terrace, sustaining injuries in the fall. She was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.

Extent of the Injuries

The post-mortem examination revealed extensive trauma to Rajesh's body. His abdomen had reportedly been cut open over a length of approximately 35 centimetres, with several deep wounds believed to have been inflicted using sharp weapons. Investigators further noted that a significant portion of his liver and his right kidney were missing. Police are examining whether the organs were removed during the attack or whether other circumstances were involved. Three knives of varying sizes were recovered from the scene.

Background of the Couple

Rajesh was originally from Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district and had been residing in Kurukshetra with Vimla for nearly a year. He was employed in the supply department of a water trading company located on Pehowa Road. The couple had been married for several years and had no children. The landlord claimed that Vimla was reportedly involved in traditional healing and exorcism-related practices, and that the couple frequently argued. However, the precise motive behind the alleged killing remains unclear.

Police Response and Investigation

Police teams led by Station House Officer Surinder Singh reached the house after receiving information about the incident. Forensic experts collected evidence from the scene. Police are currently awaiting Vimla's statement, which is expected to play a crucial role in establishing the sequence of events and determining the motive. Investigators are also examining the couple's relationship history and any past disputes that may have contributed to the incident.
