Vijayapura (Karnataka), Jan 20 (NationPress) In a distressing turn of events, three labourers in Karnataka's Vijayapura district were violently assaulted by their employer for arriving late to work after participating in festival celebrations, as reported by officials on Monday.
A video depicting the labourers being attacked with iron pipes by three individuals has gone viral across the state, prompting significant outrage.
Law enforcement stated that the incident took place at a brick factory located near Star Chowk in the Gandhinagar area on the outskirts of Vijayapura city.
The injured have been identified as Sadashiva Madar, S. Babaladi, and Umesh, residents of Chakkaliki village in Bagalkot district. Initial investigations indicated that the brick factory owner, Khemu Rathod, subjected the labourers to brutal punishment over a minor issue.
Vijayapura Superintendent of Police (SP) Laxman B. Nimbargi informed the media that legal proceedings would be initiated against Khemu Rathod and others implicated in the incident.
According to police sources, the labourers had received an advance payment from the accused, Khemu Rathod, after agreeing to work at his brick factory. They had traveled to their native village to partake in the Sankranti festival but returned four days late.
The owner's fury escalated when he confronted them verbally about their tardiness. Despite the victims' promises to complete their outstanding work, the accused's rage intensified. He proceeded to bind the three labourers with ropes and then inflict severe physical punishment upon them.
The video reveals the three labourers bound and forced to sit with their legs extended. One of the assailants grips a victim's hair while standing on their knees, and another is seen mercilessly striking the victim's feet with an iron pipe. All three victims endure similar treatment, expressing their agony through screams and cries as they suffer the assault.
Authorities have filed a case and are actively investigating the situation.
