Kolkata, Feb 26 (NationPress) The lawyer representing Trinamool Congress General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee accused the central investigating agencies on Wednesday of making misleading and unsubstantiated assertions to damage the reputation of his client.
In his statement, lawyer Sanjay Basu referred to the recent charge sheet issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the primary teacher recruitment case as merely a fishing expedition intended to harass Banerjee.
"The CBI has not presented any credible evidence, lacking any supporting documents to back its claims. This is another example of my client being unjustly targeted," the statement emphasized.
Basu argued that despite Banerjee’s full cooperation with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI, attending all summons and providing required documents, the CBI has resorted to groundless accusations.
"Importantly, the ED, which investigates alleged proceeds of crime, has not filed any charge sheet against my client, highlighting the lack of incriminating evidence against him," the press statement noted.
Basu also pointed out that although the ED previously attempted to implicate his client, it was unsuccessful, as the Calcutta High Court ruled against it upon finding no material evidence.
Now, Basu claimed in the press release that after failing with the ED, political forces have turned to the CBI, misusing central agencies to advance their agenda. The latest charge sheet from the CBI marks a desperate attempt to sow doubt despite the clear absence of evidence.
"The CBI’s politically motivated narrative is a blatant effort to damage Abhishek Banerjee’s reputation. By inserting unverified claims into a case involving others, the agency has raised profound questions regarding the integrity of its investigation," the statement declared, adding that the Trinamool leader remains undaunted by these unfounded allegations and is determined to expose this conspiracy, uphold his integrity, and ensure that justice prevails.
