Leading Innovations Highlighted at Aerospace Medicine Conference

Bengaluru, Dec 7 (NationPress) The discussions centered around cutting-edge initiatives aimed at advancing aerospace medicine dominated the 63rd annual conference of the Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine Institute (ISAM), which concluded here on Saturday.
The conference, held at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), recognized the diverse field of Aerospace Medicine and highlighted numerous collaborative successes of the medical services within the Indian Air Force, as stated in an official release.
The event took place from December 5 to 7 and was inaugurated by Air Marshal S.P. Dharkar, Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS), along with prominent military and civilian dignitaries from Bengaluru and various regions of the nation.
The conference, themed 'Collaborate for Research', illustrated the commitment of the Aerospace Medicine Society to discover new opportunities through the collective efforts of associated partners while honoring their roots.
During his inaugural address, the VCAS underscored the importance of collaboration in attaining 'Atmanirbharta' within the defense forces.
He also recognized young scholars excelling in Aerospace Medicine. Air Marshal Rajesh Vaidya, Director General of Medical Services (Air), delivered the presidential address, shedding light on various collaborative milestones achieved by the Indian Air Force's medical services.
The esteemed Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee Memorial Oration, named after the first Indian Chief of the Air Staff, was presented by Dr V.R. Lalithambika, Professor of Practice at the Dept of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Madras, and a Distinguished Scientist, former Director of DHSP ISRO.
Her presentation on 'The Next Giant Leap: My Reflections on India's Human Space Flight Programme' introduced attendees to the realm of space while informing them of the country's significant strides in human space exploration.
Her oration followed in the tradition of several distinguished figures, including Dr Raja Ramanna, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Madhavan Nair, Dr Naresh Trehan, Wg Cdr Rakesh Sharma (Retd), and Syed Kirmani, who have previously delivered this illustrious lecture.
The Air Vice Marshal M.M. Srinagesh Memorial Oration was presented by Wg Cdr Karthik Kalyanram (Retd) from Rishi Valley Rural Health Centre.
He discussed 'Effective Strategies for Low Resource Settings: Insights Gained from My IAF Journey', demonstrating the innovative and compassionate use of his IAF background to deliver healthcare to underserved rural populations.
Other highlights included 'The Jemi Harmusji Framji Manekshaw Panel', which featured guest lectures from notable experts such as Dr S.L. Vaya, Project Head at Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA), and Dr Hanumantray Baluragi, Director at the Directorate of Human Space Programme (DHSP), ISRO.
Scientific discussions covering topics like Aviation Medicine, Space Physiology and Medicine, and High Altitude Physiology were part of the conference, providing valuable insights into operational Aerospace Medicine.
