Hyderabad, July 28 (NationPress) - A leopard was sighted in the Ibrahim Bagh military zone of Hyderabad on Monday, as reported by the police.
The majestic feline was seen traversing the road within the military area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Golconda Police Station.
This sighting was captured on a CCTV camera around 3:30 a.m., prompting the police to notify the forest officials.
The leopard is thought to have moved toward the Musi River located behind Taramati Baradari, a well-known historical site in the Ibrahim Bagh region.
Authorities have urged residents nearby to remain vigilant, as there are numerous residential neighborhoods and gated communities nearby.
Officials suspect this may be the same leopard that was spotted in Manchirevula village within the extensive grounds of the Greyhounds on July 21. Police who observed the big cat immediately alerted the Forest Department.
The same leopard was also reportedly seen in Narsingi, causing concern among local inhabitants.
The Forest officials have set up trap cameras and cages at various locations within the Greyhounds campus; however, the leopard seems to have evaded capture and is now roaming the surrounding areas.
In total, at least four sightings of leopards have been documented on the outskirts of the city during July.
Earlier this month, two sightings occurred at the Research Centre Imarat facility of the Defence Research & Development Organisation in Raviryal. Although the Forest officials took prompt action to confirm the presence of leopards, no evidence was found, and the camera traps failed to capture any images.
Subsequently, another leopard sighting was confirmed in Chilukur, near the Himayatsagar reservoir. Forest officials verified the presence of this big cat, which is believed to have migrated to the Greyhounds campus and subsequently entered the Ibrahim Bagh area.
In May of the previous year, the Forest Department had successfully captured a leopard that had wandered into the premises of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, located on the outskirts of the city.
