Patna, July 14 (NationPress) In Bihar, lightning strikes have claimed the lives of at least nine individuals in just the last 24 hours, as unexpected weather fluctuations triggered thunderstorms and rainfall across several districts, including Patna, Gaya, Vaishali, and Banka.
Among the deceased, their ages ranged from 12 to 65 years, with numerous others sustaining injuries.
The district most severely impacted was Banka, where four fatalities were reported.
Among the victims were 12-year-old Kareena Kumari from Kohkara, Anil Yadav from Amarpur, Sulekha Devi from Fuldidumar, and cattle farmer Vijay Yadav from Belhar.
In Gaya district, three motorcycle riders were struck by lightning near the Suryamandal checkpost, resulting in the immediate deaths of Ankit Kumar and Vikesh Kumar, while another rider, Vakil Manjhi, suffered serious burns.
Additionally, Ruplal Yadav, a cattle herder in the Mohda block of Gaya, tragically lost his life from a lightning strike while tending to his animals.
In the Mokama area of Patna, farmer Pokh Narayan Mahato died after being struck, and in Pandarak, a buffalo also succumbed to a lightning strike.
In Vaishali district’s Chakmasud village, a young girl lost her life due to lightning.
Officials from the respective districts have taken possession of the bodies for post-mortem examinations. Most incidents occurred between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sunday.
A Kanwaria teenager was also injured by lightning near Jilebia Mode in Banka.
