Key Takeaways
Lucknow, Feb 2 (NationPress) Candidates linked to the 69,000 teacher recruitment matter staged a demonstration in Lucknow on Monday, prior to the forthcoming Supreme Court hearing, insisting on a prompt resolution to the long-standing issue.
The protest was held outside the residence of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP figure Keshav Prasad Maurya. The participants accused the authorities of irregularities in the recruitment process and delays in giving appointments despite having passed the examination.
Chanting slogans like “Keshav Chacha Nyaay karo” and “Sandeep bhaiya Nyaay karo”, the demonstrators urged Maurya, who is also from the OBC community, and Minister of State for Basic Education Sandeep Singh, to step in and ensure justice for the impacted candidates.
According to the protesters, thousands of aspirants have been in limbo for years even after clearing the recruitment exam.
Several candidates expressed that the ongoing uncertainty has adversely impacted their careers and livelihoods. “We have cleared the exam and met all eligibility requirements, yet our appointments are delayed. Our future hangs in the balance,” stated one protester.
Frustration over repeated postponements was echoed by another protestor, Manoj Yadav, who shared with IANS, “A total of 28 dates have lapsed, yet there has been no hearing, and the government lacks legal representation. We are still awaiting justice.”
The demonstrators called upon the Uttar Pradesh government to effectively present its case in the Supreme Court and ensure that deserving candidates are not deprived of job opportunities. They claimed that repeated promises from officials have not resulted in tangible action.
Law enforcement was deployed in substantial numbers to uphold peace during the protest. Although a few demonstrators were detained as a precaution, the protest remained largely peaceful.
The 69,000-teacher recruitment issue has been a contentious topic in Uttar Pradesh, with candidates approaching various courts over alleged discrepancies in evaluation and reservation policies. The Supreme Court is set to deliberate on the matter on February 4.
The protesters have vowed to continue their agitation until a conclusive resolution is achieved and justice is served to all affected individuals.
