The chaos unfolded after community members discovered the child's body wrapped in a tarpaulin within a pond.

Outraged locals claimed that the two individuals had taken the boy's life, subsequently brutally assaulting them and setting their residence ablaze.

According to police reports, Swarnabha Biswas, a third-grade student, had gone missing on Friday afternoon while playing in a nearby field.

After a night of futile searching, his family was unable to find him. On Saturday morning, villagers encountered his body floating in a pond close to their home.

Authorities indicated that suspicion fell upon neighbor Uttam Mandal, who was accused of killing Swarnabha and disposing of his body. Shortly after, a mob descended upon Mandal and another man at his residence.

“Both individuals were subjected to severe beatings, and their home was set on fire. They were transported to Tehatta Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where they were pronounced dead,” police stated.

Residents alleged that the boy's body exhibited injuries to the head, with blood visible from his nose and eyes.

Some community members also alleged that the accused had previously attempted to abduct schoolchildren and had been apprehended once in Palashi. They claimed that this time, Swarnabha was targeted.

Authorities noted that the lynching occurred shortly after the child's body was discovered.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Utpal Biswas, 45, and his wife Soma Biswas, 38.

One additional individual sustained injuries during the attack and has been sent to a hospital for care.

The three bodies, including that of the child, have been dispatched for postmortem examinations, police confirmed.
