Kolkata, Sep 8 (NationPress) On Monday, police apprehended the first suspect in the mob lynching incident, wherein a couple was brutally killed on the false allegation of murdering a 9-year-old boy.
Authorities have filed an FIR against approximately 200 individuals. The arrested individual is from the Nishchintapur locality in Tehatta, Nadia district, and was caught attempting to escape the scene near the Karimpur police station.
"We have made one arrest in connection with the mob lynching. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects. Our investigation is comprehensive," stated a senior officer from the Nadia district police.
Following the tragic death of the 9-year-old boy in Tehatta last Friday night, a couple, identified as Utpal Biswas and Soma Biswas, was lynched by a mob. Their daughter-in-law, Nisha, is currently in critical condition after sustaining severe injuries.
Recently, police initiated investigations into the incident, which has resulted in charges against over 200 people. Officers are present at the location where the boy's body was found, ensuring safety and security.
CCTV systems have been installed, and the area where the couple was attacked has been sealed off by police to preserve crucial evidence, including blood stains and broken bamboo pieces from the mob violence. Forensic teams are awaited before anyone can access the site.
On Sunday morning, police arrested four individuals linked to the boy's murder, who are now in police custody after being presented in court.
The lynching occurred on Saturday following the couple’s accusation of being responsible for the child's death.
The incident was triggered when locals discovered the child's body wrapped in a tarpaulin in a pond, leading to the violent reaction against the couple, who were subsequently assaulted and their home set ablaze.
According to reports, Swarnabha Biswas, a Class 3 student, had gone missing on Friday afternoon while playing nearby. Despite extensive searches by family members, he was found deceased in the pond on Saturday morning, shortly before the lynching took place.
