Bhopal, July 5 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the implementation of 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), while accusing the Congress of generating legal and political turmoil that has hindered progress for years.
In a strongly worded message shared on his official X account, Yadav asserted, “Our government is devoted to ensuring 27% reservation for OBCs. The Congress has contributed to the confusion by discussing reservation without any survey or preparation, resulting in the matter being mired in legal challenges.”
The remarks come as political tensions rise over the long-standing OBC quota debate. Yadav revealed plans for a new Bill to be presented in the state Assembly, aimed at formalizing the OBC reservation based on updated data and administrative groundwork.
“Our officials are diligently working to evaluate all aspects. We will address all pending cases related to joining government jobs,” he added.
The 27% OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh has been a controversial topic since 2019, when the previous Congress-led government under Kamal Nath enacted an ordinance to increase the quota from 14% to 27%.
This decision faced legal challenges, and the issue has since remained ensnared in court proceedings. The Supreme Court is currently reviewing over 70 petitions related to the quota, with no immediate resolution in sight.
The Chief Minister also criticized the Congress for attempting to claim credit for caste census initiatives, highlighting that it was former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who halted caste enumeration in 1953.
“They have governed for seventy years without taking action. Now they want to take credit for the caste census,” he stated.
Emphasizing his government's wider social agenda, Yadav mentioned that the BJP has already facilitated 10% reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) within the general category.
“The public is aware of the truth, and no one trusts the Congress narrative,” he concluded.
In a pointed retort, Congress state president Jitu Patwari claimed that his party is ready to make significant sacrifices to secure 27% reservation for OBCs, stating, “We are prepared to shed every drop of blood if necessary.”
He accused the BJP of obstructing the socio-political advancement of OBC communities, asserting, “Those who resist the rightful place of OBC families in society are none other than BJP leaders.”
