Bhopal, March 6 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated on Thursday that a 'Viksit Bharat' necessitates a 'Viksit Madhya Pradesh'. He emphasized that increased financial allocations from the Centre would empower Madhya Pradesh to tackle its economic challenges and accomplish its long-term goals.

Yadav asserted that a 'Viksit Bharat' is contingent upon a 'Viksit Madhya Pradesh', advocating for an escalation in the state's share of central taxes from 44% to 48%.

He pointed out that both the central and state governments aim for a welfare state, achievable through improved cooperation and mutual understanding.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Madhya Pradesh, being a large state with a substantial ST/SC population, has equally pressing needs.

During a meeting with the 16th Finance Commission, chaired by Arvind Pangariya at the Kushabhau Thakare convention center in Bhopal, he voiced the necessity for financial resources for the state.

The Commission, led by Chairperson Arvind Pangariya and four members, is visiting Madhya Pradesh to evaluate the financial assistance from the Centre via the tax devolution system.

Later, in a press briefing, Pangariya remarked that the Madhya Pradesh government presented a compelling case to support its demands during the meeting, which the commission has duly noted.

"The commission's role is to interact with state representatives to gauge financial needs and make recommendations to the Centre for tax devolution; currently, no decisions have been made. The Centre will present the demands of the MP government," Pangariya commented.

He added that the 16th Finance Commission has so far visited 28 states, including Madhya Pradesh, with three to four more states remaining on their itinerary.
