Haridwar, July 28 (NationPress) Tragically, eight individuals lost their lives and around 30 others sustained injuries in a stampede that erupted at the Mansa Devi Temple in Uttarakhand's Haridwar on Sunday.
This unfortunate incident was precipitated by overcrowding as thousands of devotees flocked to the revered site during the holy month of Shravan.
The Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences regarding this calamity.
According to Vinod Kumar Suman, Secretary of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, at approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) received alerts about a sudden stampede at the Mansa Devi temple. In response, the SEOC quickly contacted the District Emergency Operations.
Reports from the Haridwar District Administration indicate that the stampede resulted in eight fatalities and 30 injuries within the temple grounds.
The deceased include both minors and elderly pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. Notable among them are: Aarush (12) from Bareilly, UP; Vikki (18) from Rampur, UP; Vishal (19) from Rampur, UP; Vipin Saini (18) from Kashipur, Uttarakhand; Vakeel (43) from Barabanki, UP; Ram Bharose (65) and Shanti Devi (60) from Budaun, UP; and Shakaldev (18) from Araria, Bihar.
The District Administration noted discrepancies between initial injury reports received by the SEOC and the comprehensive list compiled following a detailed investigation.
Some individuals with minor injuries who left for home after receiving first aid were not included in the official count of the injured.
Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman stated that a revised list of the injured would be released following a thorough examination by the District Administration and discussions with family members.
The local police, revenue officials, NDRF, SDRF, and district administration teams promptly undertook rescue and relief operations at the incident site. The injured are currently receiving treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh and the District Hospital.
