Mumbai, Nov 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, announced on Monday the launch of the 'Maha-Deva' football initiative aimed at giving players from rural and tribal regions a chance to showcase their talent on an international stage.
This initiative is designed to create an international platform for rural athletes.
Fadnavis made these remarks during a meeting with representatives from the School Education and Sports Department, Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), and actor Tiger Shroff.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the Chief Minister's presence.
The statement from the government revealed that Tiger Shroff has been appointed as the ambassador for this initiative for a duration of five years.
“The ambitious 'Maha-Deva' football talent development program has received a significant boost with Tiger Shroff stepping in as the brand ambassador for five years. The goal of 'Maha-Deva' is to discover football talent among boys and girls in Maharashtra and foster their overall development. The program aims to select 30 boys and 30 girls from the state via the scouting network of Western India Football Association (WIFA) and to provide them with technical training, academic support, and international exposure,” the government’s statement elaborated.
Additionally, the MITRA initiative will collaborate with global football icon Lionel Messi.
This collaboration is expected to elevate the Maha-Deva initiative's standing on the global stage.
The MoU was signed in anticipation of Lionel Messi's visit to Mumbai.
“Tiger Shroff will play a significant role in creating public awareness, developing promotional materials, and spearheading public events and digital campaigns associated with the initiative. All promotional content will require his prior approval before release. His involvement is expected to provide a fresh outlook to the football culture in Maharashtra and open new avenues for aspiring footballers,” the statement concluded.
