Bhubaneswar, Nov 17 (NationPress) The Director of Census Operations, Odisha, Nikhil Pawan Kalyan, made an appeal on Monday for residents in the selected areas to fully cooperate with local authorities and census officials during the crucial Pre-Test phase, which is a part of preparations for the Census of India 2027.

According to the Directorate of Census Operations, the Pre-Test is being conducted in 20 revenue villages of Tentulikhunti Tahasil in Nabarangpur District, 44 revenue villages of Thakurmunda Tahasil in Mayurbhanj District, as well as in Ward No. 22 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and Ward No. 17 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation from November 10 to 30, 2025. This phase, which focuses on House Listing and Housing Census—the initial step of the Census of India 2027—is organized by the Directorate of Census Operations under the jurisdiction of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the State Government of Odisha.

In a statement to the media, Kalyan emphasized that enumerators, primarily local school teachers, along with supervisors who are typically high school teachers, will conduct house-to-house visits to gather data for the pre-test.

Kalyan urged residents in these areas to provide their support and respond to questions from the enumerators during the Pre-Test.

A significant aspect of the Census 2027 is the implementation of a digital data collection system, including a Self-Enumeration Portal (SE) that enables individuals to submit household details online through a secure web interface.

Moreover, every house will be geo-tagged using a Digital Layout Mapping App, which will facilitate quicker processing and sharing of census information. Kalyan confirmed that all data will be gathered via digital mobile apps created by the Registrar General of India's Census Office in Delhi.

During this period, enumerators will visit households to assign house numbers and gather information pertaining to the housing census.

Following the guidelines of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, enumerators will collect details about each household's condition, available amenities, and various facilities, along with other pertinent information.
