New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) The Maha Kumbh Mela-2025 held in Prayagraj, which wrapped up on Maha Shivratri, is estimated to have infused over Rs 3 lakh crore into the state's economy, propelling Uttar Pradesh closer to its ambition of achieving a $1 trillion economy.

On the concluding day of the Maha Kumbh, which commenced on January 13, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced via social media that more than 66.21 crore devotees took part in the holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj during the celebration.

Industry experts estimate that the grand festival generated business exceeding Rs 3 lakh crore (approximately $360 billion) through various goods and services, marking it as one of the largest economic events in the nation.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Secretary General and BJP MP, Praveen Khandelwal, noted that prior to the Maha Kumbh, initial forecasts anticipated the arrival of 40 crore people and projected business dealings around Rs 2 lakh crore.

However, due to the unexpected turnout from both domestic and international attendees, over 66 crore people participated in this monumental spiritual gathering, resulting in substantial business revenue surpassing Rs 3 lakh crore.

Airfares remained stable during the March quarter, typically a weaker travel period, with the increase particularly noted for flights to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh.

Numerous sectors observed significant economic activity, including hospitality, food and beverage, transport and logistics, religious attire, puja and handicrafts, textiles and apparel, along with other consumer goods.

Beyond Prayagraj, surrounding cities and towns within a 100-150 km radius also saw a notable boost in business, fortifying local economies.

The Uttar Pradesh government invested over Rs 7,500 crore to improve Prayagraj's infrastructure.

As per the state government, the Rs 7,500 crore was allocated for constructing 14 new flyovers, six underpasses, more than 200 widened roads, new corridors, expanded railway stations, and a modern airport terminal.

Furthermore, Rs 1,500 crore was specifically designated for arrangements pertaining to the Kumbh Mela.
