Mumbai, April 22 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has granted the fourth administrative approval for an allocation of Rs 25,972.69 crore toward the Gosikhurd National Project located in Bhandara district.

The initiative aims to benefit approximately 1,96,600 hectares across the districts of Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Bhandara.

Handled by the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation in Nagpur, the Gosikhurd National Project serves multiple purposes including irrigation, potable water supply, industrial water provision, fisheries, and hydropower generation, situated on the Wainganga river in the Wainganga sub-basin of the Godavari basin.

According to a government release, “The districts of Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Bhandara will gain from this project through open canal distribution, lift irrigation, and closed tube distribution. This initiative is part of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchhan Yojana. To ensure the timely completion of this significant national project in East Vidarbha, the cabinet meeting today sanctioned the fourth revised administrative approval for its funding.”

Additionally, the state cabinet endorsed the establishment of a grand memorial and a women’s training center in Mauje Naigaon (Taluka Khandala, District Satara), the birthplace of Savitribai Phule, a pioneer in women’s education. A budget of Rs 142.60 crore was approved for this memorial and Rs 67.17 lakh for the women’s training center.

The construction of this memorial was announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the birth anniversary of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule. This tribute to Krantijyoti Savitribai aims to honor her legacy, while the accompanying women’s training center will serve as a guiding light for women’s empowerment in the region, according to the government release.

A high-level committee has been established, chaired by the District Collector of Satara, to oversee the long-term management, administration, and implementation of training programs at the Women’s Training Centre. This committee will comprise representatives from the Zilla Parishad, Police Administration, YASHDA, Skill Development Department, and Rural Livelihood Improvement Mission.
