Mumbai, June 30 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar revealed supplementary demands totaling Rs 57,509.71 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26 on the inaugural day of the Monsoon Session of the Legislature.
This announcement comes in light of reported challenges related to the availability of sufficient funds due to escalating fiscal and revenue deficits, alongside rising public debt.
Out of the total Rs 57,509.71 crore, Rs 19,183.85 crore has been allocated for committed expenditures, while the remaining funds will support various government initiatives and contribute to the implementation of Central government schemes.
During the budget session in March of this year, DyCM Pawar had presented supplementary demands amounting to Rs 6,480.20 crore.
A substantial Rs 15,465.13 crore has been designated for the urban development department, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, in preparation for the upcoming elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and 28 other civic bodies, aimed at executing essential civic and development projects.
Moreover, Rs 11,042.76 crore has been set aside for various grants based on the recommendations from the 15th Finance Commission. The government has also allocated Rs 9,068.49 crore for the public works department to settle outstanding dues of Rs 80,000 crore owed to contractors for road and bridge projects.
The government has allocated Rs 3,228.38 crore for the reimbursement of stamp duty cess collected for metro projects and other development initiatives led by municipal corporations, municipalities, municipal councils, and zilla parishads.
The Fadnavis government has earmarked: Rs 2,240.82 crore for the state’s contribution to tunnel construction for metro and other transport infrastructure, Rs 2,182.82 crore for cooperative sugar factories’ capital shares for margin loans from the National Cooperative Development Corporation, Rs 2,150 crore for benefits under the central government’s long-term loans, Rs 2,096.58 crore for various corporations to finalize incomplete irrigation projects, Rs 2,000 crore for district roads and bridges, Rs 4,733.11 crore to the rural development department, Rs 3,798.93 crore to the social justice department to continue ongoing programs for backward classes and scholarship payments to eligible students, and Rs 2,835.02 crore for the cooperation, marketing, and textile department.
The state government has allocated Rs 1,300 crore for the Department of Other Backward Classes to provide scholarships to eligible students.
For the Department of Women and Child Development, a budget of Rs 2,665.76 crore has been designated to ensure timely monthly payments to women beneficiaries under the Ladki Bahin Yojana and other schemes.
