Maharashtra Governor Launches 'Vijay Diwas' Ultra Marathon to Honor 1971 Indo-Pak War Triumph

Mumbai, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Governor of Maharashtra, C. P. Radhakrishnan, officially launched the Army's impressive 405-km 'Vijay Diwas Ultra Marathon' on Friday, celebrating India's triumph in the 1971 India-Pakistan War that resulted in the creation of Bangladesh, as reported by officials.

The event commenced at the Shaheed Smarak in Colaba, attended by a significant number of civilian and military dignitaries, setting the stage for the upcoming Army Day Parade scheduled in Pune on January 15 next year.

This remarkable Ultra Marathon will cover a distance of 405 km through vital military bases and cities, including Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Kolhapur, ultimately concluding in Pune, which will host the Army Day-2025 celebrations.

The Indian Army has also welcomed not just professional athletes but also serving members, defense veterans, NCC cadets, and local citizens to participate in the Ultra Marathon.

Individuals can join the relay sections, cheer from the sidelines, or take part in community activities as the Ultra Marathon moves through their areas.

“The marathon's goal is to establish a connection between the Armed Forces and the public by providing an opportunity for everyone to honor the sacrifices made by soldiers who gave their lives for the nation, while also celebrating the courage and commitment of the Armed Forces, and encouraging fitness and resilience among all citizens,” explained an official spokesperson.

This event symbolizes camaraderie, perseverance, and national pride, highlighting the Army's dedication to the country.

At each stop along the Ultra Marathon, there will be additional activities such as motivational workshops, cultural performances, and engagements with veterans, all conveying messages of unity, resilience, and appreciation for those who protect our sovereignty.

The Ultra Marathon will conclude on Vijay Diwas at the Pune War Memorial on December 16, commemorating the significant and decisive victory of the Army during the third Indo-Pak War.

The grand finale in Pune promises to be a moment of shared pride and celebration as the Ultra Marathon reaches its final destination, as part of a series of events leading up to the Army Day Parade in Pune.
