Mumbai, April 3 (NationPress) In a move to simplify business operations, the Maharashtra government will roll out the 'One State One Registration' initiative starting May 1, allowing property transactions to be registered online without the need for buyers or sellers to visit sub-registrar offices.

A significant reform was revealed by state revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday, just prior to a two-day workshop for revenue department staff in Pune set for April 4 and 5.

“Beginning May 1, which marks Maharashtra's foundation day, individuals can register property in any district from anywhere within the state. The entire process will be conducted online as the Mahayuti government launches the 'One State, One Registration' system,” stated Minister Bawankule.

He further explained, “Traditionally, when purchasing or selling a home, individuals had to visit government offices for registration, often encountering various hurdles. Brokers also create complications during this process. In response, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis initiated a 100-day program for all departments aimed at promoting transparent and efficient governance. Under this program, the Inspector General of Stamps and Registration has introduced an innovative online property registration system that allows transactions to be completed from home anywhere in the state.”

The minister added, “A person can register a property in Nagpur while in Pune, or complete a transaction in Pune while located in Mumbai. This will be a faceless operation. Buyers and sellers can utilize their Aadhaar cards and income tax documents for registration. CM Devendra Fadnavis is committed to achieving a Digital India and Digital Maharashtra. Our government is actively working towards this goal.”

He mentioned that the One State One Registration initiative was previously tested in Mumbai and will be expanded statewide starting May 1.

A revenue department official noted that there are 519 sub-registrar offices across Maharashtra, which will process property registrations from any location in the state. This initiative is expected to decrease foot traffic at these offices, alleviate congestion, shorten processing times, and enhance transparency.

The official also indicated that this reform will assist the state government in increasing revenue from stamp duties and registration fees, which are significant sources of income following GST and VAT. The government collected over Rs 50,000 crore from these fees in 2024-25 and aims to raise Rs 60,000 crore in 2025-26.
